About Us

The Weymouth Canoe Lifeguards are a voluntary lifeguard group who have been patrolling Weymouth beach since 1968. We have always used kayak's and canoes as our main watercraft. We have a fleet of kayaks and rescue boards which we use along with our other rescue and first aid equipment. Along with:

  • A Range of Rescue Kayaks
  • Rescue Boards
  • Torpedo Rescue Buoy's
  • First Aid Packs
  • Throw Lines
  • Tow Lines
  • As we are purely a voluntary unit, we are always looking for funding no matter how small. All contributions will gratefully received and be put to good use.

What We Do

Weymouth Canoe Lifeguards provide safety cover for water-based events within the Weymouth and Portland area

In the past Weymouth Canoe Lifeguards have covered Triathlons, Sea Swims, Trawler Race, Water fest, Gig Racing, the Carnival and many others both locally and nationally. Weymouth Canoe Lifeguards mainly use the specialist rescue equipment as listed above to provide safety cover.

Training

Being a Canoe Lifeguard Unit, our training is very much structured around the BCU (British Canoe Union) awards. We are also affiliated to SLSGB (Surf Life Saving Great Britain). Our training is divided into summer & winter periods, with the emphasis in winter being on fitness and training updates. The goal is to get our members to a standard which enables them to lead patrols and covers independently. The Unit has close links with Boscawen Lifesaving & Rescue Club that enables members to gain broader experience and offer a wider range of training.
